Communication in ATC

Communication is the two way process of exchanging information in which English is widely used. Here the intelligence which is the data is being exchanged between the ATC and the pilots through RF bands. Mainly for communication transmitters , receivers and oscillators are used for generating , transmitting and receiving radio freq signals .
The RF bands used in air craft communication are
*. HF ranging from 1.6 MHZ to 30MHZ
*. VHF ranging from 300MHZ to 3000MHZ
The main advantage of VHF over HF is it is less noisy. This is really very useful in the part of pilot since it does not affect his ears. But its main disadvantage is it is meant for short range communication. So when the plane moves out of the range , HF communication is used . Generally HF is used when the plane travels over the oceanic region . The main disadvantage in HF is noisy . since it is noisy the pilots cannot wear the head phone continuosly , So inorder to communicate the information from the base station to the pilot a new method called SELECTIVE CALLING is used. In this method a four letter code is generated from the base station which shows an indication to the pilot in the form of a beep.Once he gets the beep he use the head phones and the message is passed to him.

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL

The soft and relaxed voice from the ground has a soothing effect on the pilot who completes his tiring journey by making a successful landing. It's a wonder for many how an aircraft reaches its final destination from a departure station, who all are involved in the process of safe flight and landing ? It is understandable if they assume that the pilot is the person who takes care of everything from take off, en route flying and landing. People in general know about the pilot, but much less about those who remain behind the screen and shoulder the responsibility of guiding the flights from the starting an engine at departure aerodrome to its landing at destination.

The three main jobs done in ATC are

1. COMMUNICATION
2. NAVIGATION
3. SURVEILLANCE

INTERESTING SCIENCE QUIZ

Imagine that there is a hole in the earth from South pole to North pole.I drop a ball from South pole .What will happen to the ball ???

Answer :

All objects are pulled towards the center of the earth. So the ball dropped from the South pole will gain speed and rush towards the center of the earth, when it reaches the center of the earth it gains maximum speed. It cannot stop at the center of the earth because of its speed. It will continue to travel towards North pole. Now its speed gets reduced as it is pulled back towards the of the earth. When its speed becomes zero it will reverse its direction of travel and gain maximum speed when it comes to the center of the earth. Now it will proceed in the direction of South pole and will be oscillating in a straight line.It will be traveling in both directions with the center point as the center of the earth. This explains gravitational pull and don't think there is hole from North to South pole...

GLOBAL PEACE

Each and every being wants to live a peaceful life. But what is Peace, man today has more knowledge about war than peace. Pathetically, our history has recorded only 200 years of peace. Peace can be achieved only by mutual understanding and goodwill. We should realise that the entire world is a big family of nations. Gandhiji all through his life preached Vinoba Bhaves’s slogan which was not Jai Hind but Jai Jagat (Long live the world) the greatest victories of the world are made not by swords but by love for humanity, the guiding principle of the great incarnation like Buddha and Christ. The policy of tit for tat and an eye for an eye should be avoided. Revenge only sets into motion a vicious circle to which there is no end. All dominant countries like US and UK started a war against terrorism. We should make them stop war and take peaceful steps to eradicate terrorism. The entire money spent in wars can be used for constructive purposes.

MUSIC

Music is the most ancient of all arts. It is eternal. Even before life began on Earth, I was in the winds and waves. When the first trees , flowers and grasses appeared , it was among them. When humanity came , it became the most powerful medium of expressing emotions. In all ages it inspired people with hope , kindled them with love , cheered them up and comforted them in times of despair. Through its influence , humanity has been refined. Throughout the world it has many voices. It is in the hearts of all the people. Even the deaf can feel it , by listening to their souls. It has taught people gentleness and peace.
